Media Work

With over 150 interviews, both live and recorded, on television, radio, and newsprint from all
over the world. Shawn is an extremely experienced media representative. He acts as the media
contact within the Center for Aviation Studies at Ohio State University where he is a professor.
He is sought after as a subject matter expert, typically in aviation although not always,
occasionally safety work in other domains.
This is because of his 30 yrs. of experience as an airline pilot, accident investigator, airline safety
representative and extensive industry safety work and the addition of a PhD in Cognitive
Engineering from the world leader in the subject, Ohio State University. He is well known
throughout the aerospace industry and sought after on a global scale for many safety initiatives,
especially the design of complex automation systems.
Below is an overview of his experience with these three forms of media. The specific interviews
for all three types of media follow these brief summaries.

Television Newscast – Shawn has given live interviews to all over the world including the
Middle East (Al Jazeera, Asharq News), Singapore, and Canada to name a few. Most of his over
live 50 CNN interviews have been with anchors such as Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blitzer, Brooke
Baldwin, Carol Costello, Kate Bolduan, and Christie Paul to name a few. Other news outlet
examples include Fox anchors Neil Cavuto and Megyn Kelly.

Radio Newscast – Shawn has given live radio interviews or has participated in complete radio
shows to stations all over the globe with even more here in the United States. Some of the more
common radio outlets include: KNX 97.1 Los Angeles, NPR, CBS, Sirius XM, Radio New
Zealand, and the BBC news to name a few. Additionally, there are also about two dozen stations
here in the US that call Shawn for subject matter expertise in aviation related matters. In fact,
from 7/20 until 3/22 he has his own radio aviation call-in show on WWPR 1490AM Tampa Bay,
Florida which received favorable reviews from many.

Newsprint/Internet/Magazine – Shawn is also no stranger to newsprint and is frequently called
upon for subject matter expert perspectives. Most of these newsprint outlets are some of the most
highly ranked in the world. He is always quoted in the articles for which he gives interviews and
several of these articles front page (USA Today as one example). Four of these are ranked in the
top ten newspapers in the world and 5 of which are considered in the top 10 in the United States.
