Courses We Offer

HFIE 1001 – Basic Accident Investigation

An introduction into the theory, concepts, practices and best way to operationalize basic accident/incident investigation concepts in the real word of an investigation. This course is designed and as such can be altered to address new students to this material. However, it can also be altered to provide a very detailed refresher/update for the more experienced staff.

Course time: 5 Days

“I hoped that with Shawn’s extensive teaching experience he would be able to present it in such a way that people new to this material would still be able to understand what at times can become very technical in nature” – He did just that. Was perfect!”  “Thank you HFIE”

HFIE 1002 – Cognitive Interviewing

Developed Drs. Ron Fisher (Florida International University) and Ed Geiselman (UCLA) in the mid 1980s. The focus was to help investigators gather more knowledge during interviews by capitalizing on the strengths of how humans remember. The process has been scientifically proven showing that the amount and quality of information recalled is between 35 to 60% over traditional questioning. Used by the FBI, Scotland Yard, and the NTSB to name a few. This course is taught as a one or two day program and has been used extensively by Dr. Pruchnicki. He was trained in this method at the NTSB academy in 2005.

Course time: 1 or 2 Days

“We have been using traditional methods since the inception of our safety department for the plant floor. We discovered that Dr. Pruchnicki has used this method for many years now and other organizations have been very satisfied with the more comprehensive results we now see. Thank you Doc!”

After the accident - The NTSB Investigation Process

None of us want to think of our company having an accident regardless of our transportation domain (i.e. aviation, shipping, rail, etc.). However, if this does happen, this is not the time to wonder how this process occurs, or what the expectations are for your organization and what are your rights and responsibilities. And of course, the question we hear the most “what is party status – and what does that mean regarding my involvement”?  Your instructor is a former accident investigator, airline pilot that has worked as part of half a dozen NTSB air carrier investigations.

Course time: 1 Day

“Thankfully we have not had to use this training as of yet. But if we ever do, we will be ready to fully understand, comply and participate. But now we also understand how we can offer technical expertise to an investigation. We are ready.”
